My name is Hamid Bin Mukhtar. I graduated from Nishtar Medical College, Multan, Pakistan in 1985. I was fortunate enough to earn "the Best Graduate" of my session in Nishtar medical College. While doing my internship in Nishtar Hospital, Multan, I was awarded a scholarship. I went to England at the end of 1986 and did my training in Cardiovascular Medicine at East Birmingham Hospital, Birmingham (Now called Birmingham Heartlands Hospital). During my stay at East Birmingham Hospital (1987-1993), I did my PLAB (1987), MRCP (UK - 1990) from Royal College of Physicians, London and PhD in Cardiovascular Medicine (University of Birmingham, 1993). During this period I worked initially as a senior House Officer in Cardiology and then as registrar in Cardiology. I briefly worked at Grimsby in 1993 and then moved to Bristol Royal Infirmary as a locum Senior Registrar in Cardiology in 1993. In 1994, I worked as a Locum Consultant cardiologist at South Meade Hospital, Bristol and in the same year, moved to Qatif Central Hospital, Saudi Arabia as a Consultant Cardiologist. After serving 5 years as a consultant cardiologist I moved to Armed Forces Hospital, Dhahran in 1999 as the department head in Cardiology. At the end of 2000, I moved to USA and had to start over in a medical residency program starting January 2001. At the same time I got FRCP from Royal College of Physicians Edinberg. After finishing my residency in Jan 2004, I briefly worked in hematology for 6 months and then moved to a Hospitalist position at Geisinger Medical Center in July 2004. I have been working there since 2004. I got FACP in 2020. We moved our residence to Dallas TX in 2022 and have also joined Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital since September 2022, but have maintained my job at Geisinger as well.
My Wife Shagufta
Shagufta graduated from Nishtar Medical College in 1989 and did her house job in Pediatrics and Gynecology, and then worked in National Hospital in Faisalabad where she practiced Obstetrics and gynecology. We got married in 1992. Shagufta joined me in England in 1993. Shagufta has been a dedicated mother and put her medical career on hold to raise our 3 children Talha, Naba and Yumna. She, then, completed her USMLE steps and started her residency in Internal Medicine at Geisinger Medical Center from July 2013. She completed her fellowship in Palliative medicine in 2017 and joined Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital as an attending physician in September 2017. She moved back to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville and opted for flex locum to dedicated more time to family and later we all moved to Dallas TX in September 2022.
Our Children Talha, Naba and Yumna
Talha was born in Multan in January 1995, Naba in Saudia Arabia in January 1996 and Yumna in USA in May, 2002. Talha graduated from Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA and now doing a degree in Information Technology online. Naba completed her math and chemistry major from Bucknell University, and then masters from University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. She is now doing a PhD in University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Yumna is studying psychology at UT Dallas.
